Bolina is involved in a wide range of projects. Below is an overview of just a few projects we have worked on for a variety of applications:

Anti-Terrorist Booms:

Project:

Combating waterborne insurgents.

Location:
W. Africa.

Problem:
To replace a competitor’s boom that was constantly requiring repairs and maintenance following repeated opening and closing.

Solution:
100m of Bolina Spur Boom with more freeboard, tested/certified components, full articulation, and patented automatic latching system to facilitate operation.

Safety Booms:

Project:

Protection of the public following some fatalities at sluices, while maintaining access for workboats.

Location:
W. Europe

Problem:
To prove the most suitable boom with thorough trials over 12 months, without collecting debris, and at the most challenging location on the river system (1200 cumecs).

Solution:
After successful trials, 800m of Bolina Chain Safety Booms were installed with patented gate latches throughout the river system, including the design and installation of piles in cooperation with local contractors.

Project:

The protection of a critical flood control structure from damage by debris, sometimes travelling at over 10 knots, and the deflection of debris into an area for easy removal.

UK

Problem:
To replace a competitor’s design suffering from a frequently torn curtain, damaged floats, sticking level compensators and consequentially high R&M costs.

Solution:
100m of Bolina 600/2 Series Environment Boom using a 24 ton curtain with shear bolts, impact resistant floats on the downstream side only, and self aligning level compensators.
