BOLINA BOOMS CAPABLE OF WITHSTANDING ARCTIC WINTER CONDITIONS

Bolina Safety Booms have proven themselves capable of withstanding extremely severe weather conditions.

Bolina Traffic Control Booms (TCB) and Chain Safety Booms (CSB) have proven to be reliable and durable safety solutions for many years, operating across a wide variety of waterways and water conditions around the world.

Our Traffic Control Booms are used to create a safety barrier to prevent even the smallest of craft from passing through. Meanwhile, our Chain Safety Booms have been amongst the most popular options for marine authorities due to their ability to restrain and protect watercraft from entering dangerous areas. Due to their robustness, they are the preferred choice for rough water conditions.

Both boom ranges have fixed freeboard and buoyancy, which means that the tubes will remain clear of the water surface and the floats cannot be submerged. Furthermore, these booms are capable of operating for years with minimal maintenance and can be easily assembled by using simple tools to be deployed at fully customisable lengths across a variety of roles and environments.

However, an added benefit of these booms for clients operating in cold weather climates – such as in Northern Europe, the UK, the US and Canada – is that both the Traffic Control and Chain Safety Booms have proven themselves capable of withstanding extreme Arctic winter conditions over the past 20 years.

As the booms are non-porous, it makes it impossible for ice to adhere to the booms themselves, while the corrosion-resistant tubes are secured with sellock-pins, which means they are fully resistant to vandalism.

This has been proven with our TCBs being deployed by the National Forest Organisation in the Netherlands (Staatsbosbeheer) at De Biesbosch National Park, one of the largest national parks in the country and one of the last extensive areas of freshwater tidal wetlands in North-western Europe.

One of the reasons our TCB range was chosen to protect this crucial ecological area was because of its performance in harsh winter conditions, the client said. Officials from Staatsbosbeheer highlighted the fact that the TCBs can sit on the ice without being damaged was a major plus for them.

Similarly, our CSB range has been deployed on the River Severn for many years, where they have helped to protect and guide watercraft for many years, including during some of the worst storms and floods to ever hit the UK during the winter of 2013-2014.

These severe winter storms caused the river to flood and caused massive damage to many parts of the country through which it ran. However, despite the awesome forces and strains exerted upon them, our CSB range successfully served as the last line of defence for a number of riverside homes and locales, protecting them from total destruction by ensuring that debris were deflected into safe areas.

In addition to being nearly indestructible, both our TCB and CSB ranges are excellent deterrents for marine and water traffic as they cannot be lifted or submerged, thereby prevent vessels from passing over or under them. Get in touch to know more!
