The booms can deter intruders or demonstrators by providing an exclusion zone behind a physical barrier, giving authorities the time to respond when alerted by the alarm system.
They have been proven to provide the required protection for aircraft movements at London City Airport. The platform allows four aircraft to taxi out on to the runway at any one time. One aircraft will be in position for take off clearance whilst the additional three aircraft park in the hold and wait to move into position for take off.
